Collective Worship
Collective worship gives pupils and school staff the opportunity to:
- Engage in an act of community.
- Express praise and thanksgiving to God.
- Be still and reflect.
- Explore the big questions of life and respond to national events.
- Foster respect and deepen spiritual awareness.
- Reflect on the character of God and on the teachings of Christ.
- Affirm Christian values and attitudes.
- Share each other’s joys and challenges.
- Celebrate special times in the Christian calendar.
At Elveden C of E Primary Academy, we worship daily. This is a time when we gather as a whole school to focus on our ’Values for Life’ theme. These follow a 3 year cycle with a particular emphasis on our four values which are central to our school; Hope, Trust, Respect and Forgiveness.
Throughout the week, we focus on our ‘Building Learning Power’ ethos which encourages children to think about themselves as learners and reflect on their behaviour. We also have singing collective worship, values for life stories and time to celebrate the children’s achievements.
Our collective worship follows the liturgical structure of gathering, engaging, responding and sending. Our Collective worship team involves KS2 children taking the lead in planning and delivering worship to the rest of the school and time is given for them to meet on a weekly basis to do this. The children feel a great sense of pride and responsibility and their understanding of the Christian values has taken on a new meaning because of this.
We welcome visitors from different Christian denominations and other world faiths so that children have the opportunity to explore all religions as part of preparing them for life’s journey. At Elveden, we celebrate and learn about festivals within the Christian calendar, visiting St Andrews and St Patrick’s church at Elveden for worship.
